What are Bucket Conveyors?

 You might have heard of various machines and tools used in factories and industries where grains are processed, for instance, a rice mill. The devices you have heard of are bucket elevators, which are made up of elevator buckets. You might have heard of screw conveyors, flexible screw conveyors, auger conveyors, etc. For now, let’s understand what Bucket Conveyors are.

Whenever you visit an airport, you come across a conveyor belt while you are collecting your luggage. What is the function of that belt? That belt is transporting luggage bags from one place to another so that the passengers can be stationed at one place and rather bags reach to them and this avoids chaos. Bucket conveyors do something similar. They are used to transport anything, from coal to rice and milk. From dense material to perishable goods and powdery stuff. These conveyors are made up of stainless steel and hence are easily washable, so as to transport anything without damaging anything else. Bucket conveyors have a chain of attached buckets to transport bulk material in horizontal, inclined, or vertical paths.

Bucket elevators are also an enhanced version of bucket conveyors and both the machines more or less work on the same principle, which increases the efficiency of production in any working space, say rice mill. Since a lot of material has to be transported from one place to another, these bucket elevators end up saving a lot of time and manpower. The elevator buckets attached are uptight and make sure that there is no spillage or no loss. They have an input point and an output point. Mills producing grains, such as rice mills, need an algorithm that constantly works in a loop to provide them with effective working. These bucket conveyors also help in reducing the labour time and hence reducing the labour cost. Since this era has moved towards the use of technology and therefore decreasing the man-machine ratio.

When it comes to the maintenance of the bucket elevators, it is not much of a problem for the mill. These machines just need regular clean-ups of the boot and any build-up has to be removed, once the transportation is done. Maintenance also involves regular lubrication of the machine so that the bearings stay lubricated and perform well. Regular checking of the lubrication of the chain ensures smooth working and it lasts long.
